Bridging the Gaps – Cumann na mBan Bridge, Carrick on Shannon
8 March 2018 @ 06:30 - 19:30
FreeJoin Leitrim Abortion Rights Campaign in celebrating International Women’s Day in style! We will create a human bridge along the Cumann na mBan footbridge to commemorate extraordinary Irish women who have changed the world, joining hands across the Shannon from Leitrim to Roscommon.
Each participant will celebrate a woman activist from the last century, wearing a sash showing important names and dates, and holding pictures of the women who have made our lives better in the last 100 years.
Our aim is to draw strength from the women of the past to create a more equal and inclusive future for all in Ireland.
All are welcome, costume is encouraged! Donations towards Leitrim Abortion Rights Campaign are welcome.
What to bring (in order of importance):
1 – Your beautiful self!
2 – A friend (the more the merrier)
3 – The name of an Irish* woman from the last 100 years whom you personally want to represent
[* Grandparent rule applies. Also, anyone who has ever visited, mentioned or thought about Ireland counts for our purposes.]
4 – A white sash (tear up your old bedsheets!) with the name of the woman you’re celebrating written on it. **
[** We will bring along some extra sashes, names, pictures and permanent markers. But if you can bring one you’ve made earlier, there will be more to go round!]
5 – A picture of the woman you’re celebrating (adds to the impact of the event)
6 – some item of costume – hats are heartily recommended!
7 – Some candles (nightlights in jam-jars) to light your beautiful selves as the sun goes down over the river.
The most important thing is to show up – everything else is icing on a cake of activism!
Let’s bridge the gaps in women’s rights in Ireland, and make a better future for everyone!
