The Eighth Amendment and Healthcare
24 January 2018 @ 19:00 - 21:00Free
ARC Open Information Evening: The Eighth Amendment and Healthcare
This is a public event in Dublin outlining the many ways that the Eighth Amendment affects pregnancy healthcare in Ireland. Speakers from a variety of backgrounds will show how the Eighth not only affects people who need abortions, but also those who use obstetric/maternity services in Ireland.
Location will be announced closer to the time.
The event is free but registration is required, please see ARC’s Eventbrite for registration details.
Special Guest Speaker:
Donagh Stenson – Bpas – British Pregnancy Advisory Service, the UK’s leading abortion care charity.
Donagh has been Associate Director of Marketing at BPAS for 12 years and has specific responsibility for facilitating Irish women travelling for not-for- profit abortion care in England.
Bpas has been taking care of Irish women for half a century and discount their prices to reflect the additional burden of travelling from Ireland. Donagh is in a unique position to provide insight into the practical and emotional impact that being forced to travel for essential reproductive healthcare has on women and their loved ones:
“I am proud to do my part in advocating for Irish women to access legal, safe and free abortion in Ireland. In fact, I find it the most rewarding part of my role. Marketing or communicating
about abortion services continues to be the biggest, most interesting challenge of my career. 1 in 3 women of reproductive age in the UK access abortion care but we don’t know exactly when so we need to ensure information is readily available when they need it.”
Philomena Canning, midwife and chairperson of Midwives for Choice
Krysia Lynch, Chair of Association for Improvements in the Maternity Services- Ireland (Aims Ireland)
Other speakers from:
Doctors For Choice Ireland
Parents for Choice in Pregnancy and Childbirth
