March4Repeal – International Women’s Day 2017
8 March 2017 @ 17:30 - 19:30
FreeNo More Delays – Name the Date for a Referendum
Wednesday 8th March is International Women’s Day, a global day of action and solidarity. We are calling on the Irish government to name the date for a referendum to repeal the eighth amendment.
One year on since the last General Election and despite all the promises and commitments given we are no closer to a referendum date. This cannot be permitted to continue. Women in Ireland are no longer prepared to patiently and quietly wait while so called ‘expert’s and politicians debate our human rights to personal and bodily autonomy.
Abortion is a reality Ireland. Every year 3,600 women travel to Britain to access abortion. Many others, who are either unable to travel or cannot afford to, access the abortion pill online, risking a prison sentence of up to 14 years. This hypocrisy must end.
The Eighth Amendment is a profound source of discrimination and national shame for Ireland.
Join the March on International Women’s Day and demand a Referendum to Repeal the Eighth Amendment and respect women’s lives, health and choices. We will meet at 5.30pm at the Garden of Remembrance & march to the Dáil.
In solidarity with #Strike4Repeal happening the same day we would ask you to wear black

What is International Women’s Day?
In 1907 the women in New York held a “Hunger March” protesting the dangerous working conditions and long working hours. Police attacked the march, and the following year on March 8th 1908 a commemorative march was held, which became a milestone in women’s history. By 1911 it had become an international event that women around the world continue to mark and celebrate in the struggle for women’s liberation.
