Repeal or Save the 8th
10 March 2018 @ 18:00 - 20:00
Join the 1916 Clubs at 6pm, Saturday 10th March for a debate on the forthcoming 8th Amendment referendum.
The 8th Amendment (Art. 40.3.3) to Bunreacht na hÉireann was enacted by referendum in 1983.
That Amendment reads: ‘The State acknowledges the right to life of the unborn and, with due regard to the equal right to life of the mother, guarantees in its laws to respect, and, as far as practicable, by its laws to defend and vindicate that right.’
In the coming months a referendum will be held to decide the future of that Amendment, posing the question to Irish citizens whether we wish to Repeal or Save the Eighth.
As citizens, we have a duty to inform and challenge ourselves in relation to what we envision for our society, and our collective and individual aspirations for the future.
In advance of the crucial referendum, join us to hear and reflect on a diverse range of perspectives on the 8th Amendment from a wide-range of speakers.
