Will disability be a ground for abortion?

Figures given by those who argue for the 8th in relation to abortion on disability grounds in other countries are not useful as the laws are too different. In Britain there is a specific ground in legislation allowing access to abortion on the basis of any foetal disability without time limit. Nothing comparable is proposed here and abortion in cases of disability will not be permitted.

Some couples who receive a diagnosis of Down syndrome, for example, will decide to continue with the pregnancy  and prepare for caring for a child with special needs. Some couples will decide to end the pregnancy and travel abroad. Whatever a woman decides, it will be a considered and thoughtful decision taking into account the well-being of her family.
